The mission of LRF is to promote balanced development of Latvian rural territories in order to create it as a place where contented people live, able to meet their economical and social needs in the place of their residence.
The Latvian Rural Forum (LRF) was established on the 22nd of December 2004 and registered in the Register of Associations and Foundations on the 27th of April 2005. The LRF unites Latvian rural non-governmental organizations to:
- foster a sustainable development of Latvian rural (local) areas;
- strengthen civil society in rural Latvia supporting implementation of local initiatives and collaborations;
- represent interests of the population of rural Latvia on national and international level;
- collaborate with states and local government institutions, NGOs, enterprises and other institutions;
- maintain Latvian Rural Communities Parliament movement in Latvia;
- broaden supply of life-long learning opportunities in rural regions;
- promote research on sustainable development of territories.
LRF is represented:
- in the Council of Implementation of Memorandum of Cooperation between Cabinet of Ministers and NGOs;
- in the planning committee of the European Union Structural and Cohesion Funds of 2014-2020;
- in the working group of the European Union Structural and Cohesion Funds of 2021-2027;
- in the Monitoring Committee of the Operational Programs for the Implementation of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund Support in Latvia for 2014-2020 (NRP);
- in the Fisheries Advisory Council;
- in the Monitoring Committee of Rural Development Program 2014-2020,
- in the National Working Group for the Implementation of the EU Structured Dialogue in Latvia;
- SVVA Strategy Selection Committee;
- Common Agricultural Policy 2021-2027 in the thematic working group “Rural Space”;
- in the Working Group on the Future of European Union Cohesion Policy;
- in the Consultative Working Group of EEA – Norway Bilateral Cooperation Fund,
- “Big catch” in the evaluation commission;
- in the commission of Cultural marks “Latvian Heritage”.
In 2021 LRF unites 84 organizations – 36 members and 48 associated members.
The main LRF activities are:
- to promote sustainable development of Latvian rural territories;
- to support professional implementation and monitoring of the LEADER program;
- to strengthen civil society in rural territories, promoting local initiatives and cooperation;
LRF is the work of the team of Latvian rural development experts and enthusiasts to reach common goals regarding Latvian rural development. The association collaborates with local, national authorities, and non-governmental organizations and is a member of several European and Latvian NGO networks.
